Health ministry has decided to strictly enforce the law to deal with persons liable for mosquito breeding places with the help of security forces as Colombo district is reported to be the worst hit by dengue threat with 2893 reported cases and 33 deaths.
The Health Ministry has warned that persons who maintain mosquito breeding grounds will be liable for a six month imprisonment.
The Defence Ministry has agreed to give support of all security sectors for the strict enforcement of the Mosquito Breeding Control Act countrywide. The task force appointed by President for speedy handling to mitigate the threat met at President's office. Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa, Chiefs of the Armed Forces, the IGP and the head of the Civil Defence Force were present at the discussion
The Presidential Task Force for the control of Dengue has unveiled a comprehensive programme throughout the island. The enforcement of the Mosquito Breeding Prevention Act has been made compulsory.
It was agreed at this discussion to appoint Security Coordinating Officers to represent the Armed Forces, the Police and the Civil Defence Force. Districts of Jaffna Kegalle, Badulla, Kurunegala Ratnapura and Matale are some of the worst hit districts of dengue fever.
